This week the difference between progress and activity is on my mind. Everyone is very busy; everyone is doing ‘stuff’, but is progress being made?
There is an anonymous quote that says, “activity does not necessarily equal progress”. How true.
Brian Tracy then smashes it out of the park by saying “If what you are doing is not moving you towards your goal, then it’s moving you away from your goals”.
With that in mind, take time to think:
- When did you last take a step back and refocus on what it is you are trying to achieve and why?
- What have you been doing lately that is directly linked to achieving your goals? How can you celebrate and reinforce that?
- What have you been doing lately that is just activity, just stuff? Why has that happened and how can you stop that?
- How clear are your teams on the goal? Are their efforts aligned?
As leaders, we can show our people that we are role modelling the changes that all of us want to see. Let’s be better and be the change – contact [email protected] if you would like help to do so.
