Are you making the right choice?

This week, I’m talking about a personal passion and that is striving to always do the right thing, not the easy thing. Martin Luther King nailed it when he said, “The time is always right to do what is right”.

The time is always right and yet things can get in the way:

  • It can be all too easy to get caught up in the travellator of life and not pause and think consciously about choices.
  • It can be difficult to be the lone voice pointing out an issue when others just want to go with the flow.
  • Doing the right thing can often be the more challenging path to take, with the path of least resistance tempting you to take it instead.

Doing the right thing requires conscious thought; strength of character to inform and influence; and resilience to see it through.

With that in mind, take time to think:

  • Are you clear on your personal values? These provide a north star, helping you to make the right decisions that will sit comfortably with you.
  • What difficult decisions have you got coming up? How are you going to ensure you can influence and enable a conscious choice to do the right thing not the easy thing?
  • What do you need to do to ‘top up your tank’ and ensure you are resilient enough to see it through?

As leaders, we can show our people that we are role modelling the changes that all of us want to see. Let’s be better and be the change – contact [email protected] if you would like help to do so.
