John Quincy Adams said: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
I like this quote as it focuses on people; as whilst it is right to be resolutely focussed on achieving results, you forget the people who enable those results at your peril!
Leaders who inspire people have the power to be truly transformative for both individuals and organisations – igniting passion, encouraging the pursuit of goals and driving towards greatness.
We had blue Monday this week, how many of your team lacked motivation, felt stuck or unfulfilled? How can you, as leader, light that fire within your team and get them energised for the way forward?
Inspirational leaders tend to be able to connect with people on a deeper level; key traits include:
- Ability to communicate a vision clearly.
- Contagious passion for their work.
- High levels of empathy.
- Resilience, valuing perseverance.
- Taking risks and making tough decisions.
- Foster creativity.
With that in mind, take time to think:
- Who has inspired you in the past? What was it about them?
- How inspired do your team feel right now? How do you know?
- Can you describe your vision simply and clearly?
- How much of your time do you spend listening versus telling?
- What does it take for you to do the right thing not the easy thing?
As leaders, we can show our people that we are role modelling the changes that all of us want to see. Let’s be better and be the change – contact [email protected] if you would like help to do so.
