Mirror Mirror on the wall

There is a debate as to whether the Evil Queen in Snow White and the seven dwarfs said, “mirror mirror on the wall”, or “magic mirror on the wall”; either way it is a helpful, albeit tangential, link to the topic this week – reflection!

Great leaders know that you need to keep working on soft skills to thrive. This HBR article Don’t Underestimate the Power of Self-Reflection calls out the one competency that is often less talked about – reflection. It states that reflection can separate extraordinary professionals from mediocre ones; and that importantly it needs to thoughtful and deliberate.

So, take time to think – as you reflect on the last month:

  • What surprised you, and why?
  • What frustrated you, and why?
  • What did you get wrong, and why?
  • Now as you think about the month ahead, how are you going to take the lessons from the above and do things differently?
  • And who would benefit from you sharing these lessons?

As leaders, we can show our people that we are role modelling the changes that all of us want to see. Let’s be better and be the change – contact [email protected] if you would like help to do so.
