What do you want to be?

This week I want to talk about the expression, in a world where you can be anything you want to be…….. be kind.

There are two aspects to this:

Be kind to others: Harold S. Kushner said, “When you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world”.

Be kind to yourself: The BUPA website sets out how doing so:

  • strengthens our sense of self – our identity
  • boosts our self esteem
  • helps with our confidence
  • improves our sense of optimism
  • helps us cope better with stress
  • improves resilience – our ability to bounce back after a setback

With that in mind, take time to think:

  • Leaders face into busy, stressful and challenging situations every day, as you reflect on the week have you been as kind as you could have been in those circumstances? If not, what are you going to do about that?
  • Who do you know that is having a hard time? What kind words can you share?
  • Have you been kind to yourself this week?
  • What can you put in place now to make it easier to be kind to yourself and others in future?

As leaders, we can show our people that we are role modelling the changes that all of us want to see. Let’s be better and be the change – contact [email protected] if you would like help to do so.
