What have you learned today?
There is a quote from a JFK speech that he never actually gave, which is “Leadership and Learning are indispensable to each other” (Remarks Prepared for Delivery at the Trade Mart in Dallas, TX, November 22, 1963 [Undelivered] | JFK Library).
Great leaders know that they never ‘make it’; instead, they commit to a life of learning and growth because it benefits the organisation and those it serves.
Learning and evolving as a leader means we can adapt with, and to, the rapidly changing world (the ‘never normal’) that we are living in; this requires constant innovation, reflection and improvement. This desire to continually improve in our leadership is an integral component to realising, aligning and inspiring others to help make organisations what we want and need, a reality.
With that in mind, take time to think:
- How committed are you genuinely to continually growing as a leader?
- In the last week, have you approached things in the way that you always do, or did you try new ways?
- What did you learn last week that you want to take into this week?
- As you think about your week ahead, what are you worried about and how could you try to tackle that slightly differently?
As leaders, we can show our people that we are role modelling the changes that all of us want to see. Let’s be better and be the change – contact [email protected] if you would like help to do so.
