In a lot of my coaching conversations lately, trust seems to be coming up and perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by this. Trust is one of the most valuable, and most fragile, assets an organisation has and a person feels. When trust erodes, everything slows down: decisions, transformation, customer loyalty, even talent retention.
For some of you, you might be thinking ‘here we go with the pink and fluffy stuff’; however, trust isn’t a “soft” concept. AI acceleration, geopolitical instability, and change fatigue have made people even more sensitive to inconsistency between what leaders say and what they do. Just sending out more comms isn’t going to fix that.
People trust leaders who:
- act consistently with stated values;
- communicate early rather than perfectly;
- explain trade‑offs honestly; and
- model the culture they expect from others.
With that in mind, take time to think:
- Where is trust quietly eroding in your organisation?
- Do people trust you? How do you know?
- What behaviours, not messages, would rebuild it?
- How consistently do your decisions reflect your stated values?
As leaders, we can show our people that we are role modelling the changes that all of us want to see. Let’s be better and be the change. Contact me via the link in the comments if you would like help to do so.
